Ieperfest news update 17 September 2009

Hey there! A couple of weeks have passed since Ieperfest 2009, so we thought it was about time for a closing update and review on the festival!

First of all, we would like to say THANK YOU to all of you to come out to the festival, for checking out the bands, checking out the More Than Music stage and for making it one of the best editions in YEARS! We were able to experience three days of true hardcore spirit: no fights worth mentioning, most people cleaning up after themselves, a POSITIVE atmosphere and lots of bands with interesting views on society and messages worth listening to! Again, THANK YOU!

Another big THANK YOU goes out to all the volunteers that helped out during the festival. This would not be possible without you, and all the hard work is much appreciated!

The More Than Music-stage proved to be a huge success, as a lot of you seemed interested in one or more of the things we had programmed! Especially the spoken words by Carl FIRST BLOOD, Davin xKINGDOMx and the tour-report of HELLO BASTERDS seemed very popular items!

After all of you had left the festival ground and the camping, we were very happy to see that everything looked waaaay cleaner than the last couple of years. We saw lots of people taking the effort to put their garbage in a bin, lots of people taking the effort to bring back their plates and quite some people walking around collecting drinking cups! All cups have been collected in a large container and were picked up by the friendly people of the “Vanheede Environment Group” that will take care of recycling our cups!

We were very happy to hear shitloads of positive comments on the food that was served on Ieperfest this year! We were anxious to see how the co-operation with a brand new catering chef would work out, and were delighted to see that it all worked out brilliantly! Theo has enjoyed himself a lot, and has already stated to be present again next year!

Talking about food: some of you might have noticed that we sold Vegan chocolate at the festival, to help out our environment. One bar of chocolate equalled one saved tree in the Amazon rainforest. We are extremely proud to show you the result: organicmeltdown.com. That’s right, Ieperfest is the NUMBER ONE top tree saver! Thanks to all the people that bought a bar of chocolate on the festival!

For those of you interested in catching a glimpse of the atmosphere on Ieperfest 2009, you can watch shitloads of pictures on myspace.com/ieperfest or netlog.com/ieperfest! For more pictures, interviews and reports, have a look at the website of our mediapartners indymedia.be!

People that want something palpable to remember the festival by can order an official Ieperfest 2009 t-shirt or sweatshirt by sending an e-mail with your full name, and the preferred size, to stey@genetrecords.com. T-shirts cost 5 Euro’s, sweatshirts cost 20 Euro. These prices do not include transportation costs!

For those of you thinking it’s chillin’ time for the Ieperfest organisation: GUESS AGAIN!!! We have already started preparations for next year’s edition, and will announce the first details, such as the date, soon! We are also considering putting up a Winterfest next February! A date might be announced really soon, so keep your eyes peeled!

Best, Team IEPERFEST

Ieperfest news update 27 August 2009

Countdown has really started right now: in a few hours time, at 18h30 to be precise, FUNDAMENTAL will be playing their first notes on the Ieper Pre-fest show! Remember, this show is FREE, and takes place in the festival’s marquee tent!

We regret to announce that AN EMERALD CITY will not be playing Ieperfest this year due to personal matters beyond anyone’s control. We have searched AND found a more than adequate replacement for them though! We are pleased to tell you that SKARE TACTIC (USA – www.myspace.com/skaretactic) will be hitting the Marquee Stage on Saturday August 29th!

Last time we already told you about the delicious vegan food and ice-cream that will be served on Ieperfest, and we have some more good gastronomic news! You will be able to buy delicious vegan chocolate bars, made by Organic Meltdown (www.organicmeltdown.com). Each bar of chocolate you buy saves one whole tree in the South American rain forest! We will be keeping score, and you will be able to track how many trees you saved on their website!

We also told you that we will be selling festival shirts and belts. These shirts and belts will be looking like this! Did we tell you they come in limited numbers? Be quick and be one of the few to have one!
The festival ground is about ready for the weekend! Add Ieperfest on Facebook to keep track of what is going on at the festival ground, and to be one of the first to know news about Ieperfest 2010!

This will probably be the last time you hear from us before the festival. We will be seeing some of you tonight, and all of you tomorrow!

Best,

Team IEPERFEST

Ieperfest news update 24 August 2009

Woooow, time moves fast when you’re busy doing all sorts of stuff! Ieperfest 2009 kicks off this Thursday already, with the ever fun Pre-Fest, which is FREE this year! One day later, we bring out the big guns on the first official day of the festival! Tons of awesome bands, and a more than interesting program on the More Than Music-stage!

The festival ground is being prepared as we speak. The Marquee tent and the distro tent were set up last Saturday, and right now all other tents, stages, fences... are being put in place! Major thanks to all volunteers helping us out with that!

As most of you may have already noticed, we have been spreading the brand new flyer since the beginning of last week! Some of the bands playing our festival have put the flyer as default picture on MySpace. We invite all of you to do the same, in order to spread the word of the festival even more, and help us to promote the festival to the max!

Just like every year, you will be able to enjoy delicious vegan food at Ieperfest! Since Tash, responsible for the food the last years, decided not to take care of that part of the festival anymore, we had to look for a brand new cook this year. We are proud to announce that GSR’s leading man Theo Coumans will be preparing the food this year! This may come as a surprise to some of you, but Theo actually has shitloads of experience cooking food on big festivals! The food will be tasty and varied, so don’t hesitate to try ALL of it!

Speaking of food: we are delighted to tell you about the triumphant return of the finger-licking good vegan ice-cream! We are offering four different flavours of ice-cream and also some water ice! You know, Calypo style, but not quite Calypo. We are also offering a camping breakfast for the first time this year! For the democratic price of 4 Euro’s, you’ll be able to purchase two Danish pastries, a piece of fruit and a cup of coffee! Breakfasts are limited to 200 per day, so be quick!

Just like each year, we are doing great efforts to keep waste down to a minimum, and help the environment a little. In order to achieve maximum result, we count on a little co-operation from all of you. We kindly ask you to put your thrash in the right containers, for instance. Or to collect drinking cups on the festival ground: collect 50 cups and receive one drink ticket! Check out the “Garbage” section for more information. DON’T THROW YOUR SHIT AROUND, BIN IT!

Talking about helping the environment: for those of you who’d like to take a shower on the festival, we provide ECOVER showergel, FREE of charge! So leave your environmentally unfriendly showergels at home as much as possible! It’s cheaper to do so, and it’s waaaay better for the environment!

For those of you who are interested in festival memorabilia, we have exciting news! For the first time EVER, Ieperfest weekend-bracelets will be textile, not paper, so you’ll be able to wear them for months and years to come! We will also be selling festival t-shirts and Ieperfest belts. Available for cheap and in limited amounts only, so make sure not to miss out!!

That’s about if for now. Keep your eyes peeled for updates, as there’s still some more news to come in the upcoming days! Take care!

Ieperfest news update 12 August 2009

Hey there,

As promised in the last update, we are back with the announcement of some extra names! Three new names instead of two though, because we also had to find a replacement for AS WE FIGHT (DK), who received some personal news the day after we announced them that prevents them for coming to Ieperfest this year. We were sad to hear this, and hope everything will work out for them!

We realize that lots of you were looking forward to checking them out, but we are convinced that the announcement of the last additions to the line-up will make up for this loss, so here goes: 108 (USA), NASTY (BE) and TERROR (USA)!

The Ieperfest bill is now full, no more bands will be added! A final schedule per stage will be online later this week! You will be able to download the schedule as a pdf-file and print it out! That might come in handy, right?!

Ticket sales are now running at all pre-sale points. Those of you who haven’t got a ticket yet, hurry to one of these pre-sale vendors: Genet HQ Gent, Vort’n Vis Ieper, all Fnac stores, all Brooklyn Fashion stores (Brugge, Gent, Antwerpen, Roeselare, Knokke, Kortrijk, Oostende, Waregem), Popcenter Kortrijk, Piet Gein Roeselare, Oostendse Ploate (Compact Center), Fat Kat Antwerpen, Disobedience Crew BXL or JJ Records Leuven. You can also buy tickets online: Genetstore.com ! All info regarding tickets can be found by clicking the “Tickets” tab!

The first details of what will be programmed on the MTM-stage are up! Click the “Non-music” tab for a rough overview! Much respect for the team taking care of the MTM-stage, they have managed to put together an interesting and diverse program!

Furthermore, ten distros/labels will be present at Ieperfest 2009: Genet, GSR, Eye Spy, Holy Shit , Arte Rock Influenza, Conspiracy, Reflections, Hurry Up, Reality and Filled With Hate . Support them and the bands by buying CD’s and merch in the Ieperfest merch tent!

Traditionally, we have programmed crazy DJ’s for the afterparties on Friday –and Saturday evening! On Friday, DJ’s Allibardo and Basn will make you dance into the night. On Saturday, we celebrate the return of DJ Jacqueline, followed by the party tunes of DJ Jooza!

We’ll be back soon with more news on the festival, like the announcement of the brand new catering team and the final time schedule. Stay tuned!!

Ieperfest news update 4 August 2009

Hello there! It took us a while to give you an update on what’s going on concerning Ieperfest ’09, but that’s just because we wanted to give you an update that was worth the wait! And we sincerely believe we are now able to give you an update that will dazzle you, so here goes!

Let’s talk bands first! We regret to announce that the following bands had to cancel their presence at Ieperfest 2009, due to various reasons beyond our control: BLOOD STANDS STILL (USA), FOR THE FALLEN DREAMS (USA), IMPENDING DOOM (USA), JOE COFFEE (USA), LOWER CLASS BRATS (USA), MISERY INDEX (USA), PSYOPUS (USA), RAFFLESIA (BE) and THICK AS BLOOD (USA).

We apologize to the people that were looking forward to seeing any of these bands perform, but are convinced that we will be able to make up for this by announcing the following names: ABORTED (BE), ALCATRAZ (USA), AS WE FIGHT (DEN), BANE (USA), THE BOSS (BE), BURNING SKIES (UK), DAYS OF BETRAYAL (BE), DOWN TO NOTHING (USA), FIRST BLOOD (USA), JULITH KRISHUN (GER), KEITH CAPUTO (USA), MORDA (BE) and RITUAL (GER)!
Check out the “bands” section for a full list of all confirmed names, with band pictures, info and MySpace links! We sincerely believe this year’s bill is one of the best and most varied we’ve ever had, and are looking forward to get Ieperfest ’09 going!

Two more bands will be added to the line-up within the next couple of days. 63 bands spread over three days and two stages for only 60 Euro... a “batje” (bargain) if you ask us! A detailed schedule per day/stage will be up shortly as well! For now, we have posted a simple schedule per day. Click the “schedule” tab to get to it!

Ticket sales have been going on for a while through all Fnac stores, Fnac.be and the Fnac Hotline (0900/00600), but now pre-sale tickets are also available at the following pre-sale points: Genet HQ Gent, Genetstore.com, Vort’n Vis Ieper, Popcenter Kortrijk, Piet Gein Roeselare, Oostendse Ploate (Compact Center), Fat Kat Antwerpen, Disobedience Crew BXL, JJ Records Leuven, Zumi Q Hasselt and ALL Brooklyn Fashion Stores! You can find all the info you want concerning the ticket sales by clicking the “tickets” tab at the top of this website!

Our side-program “Hardcore, more than just music” will be an even more important part of the festival this year, and gets its own proper stage! This third stage (next to the Main Stage and Marquee Stage) is called the MTM-Stage, or More Than Music-Stage. A detailed survey of what’s programmed on that stage will appear on our website shortly, and will also be printed in the festival brochure, but expect things like movie screenings, debates, spoken word sessions ...

We are also proud to announce the bill of this year’s Ieper Pre-Fest! The following five genuine H8000 bands will be performing on Thursday August 27th on the Ieperfest Marquee Stage: FUNDAMENTAL (Dirty Clevo-styled hardcore from Kortrijk), SENSUAL NOISE (Intense sludge/post-hardcore from Knokke-Heist), GOLDEN BULLET (No Bullshit beatdown hardcore from Tielt), OPEN SESAME (Melodic metalcore (think PARKWAY DRIVE) from Roeselare) and THE IGNORED (Poppy punkrock from Ieper city!). Oh yes, to gain access to this awesome gig, you will have to pay ONE MILLION DOLLARS, or 0 Euro’s, whatever suites you best! In other words, it’s absolutely 100% free!

That’s about it for now, hope you like what you see! Take care, and speak soon!

Ieperfest news update 26 May 2009

It’s been a while since you received news and updates on Ieperfest 2009. Our sincerest apologies for that. Interesting tours didn’t get announced as early as we thought they would, so things were delayed a bit. All of a sudden we kept on adding band after band to the bill and decided to wait for some final confirmations before going public.

However, we kind of hope we can make it up to you by announcing 57 (!!!) confirmed bands for the festival, which is to be held on 28, 29 and 30 August! Ready? Here goes:

ANNOTATIONS OF AN AUTOPSY (UK), ARCHITECTS (UK), BALANCE (SWE), BANDANOS (BRA), BLACK HAVEN (BE), BLOOD REDEMPTION (BE), BLOOD STANDS STILL (USA), BOLD (USA), BRINGIN' IT DOWN (USA), CHUCK RAGAN (USA), CRIMSON FALLS (BE), DARKEST HOUR (USA), DEAL WITH IT (UK), DIABLO BOULEVARD (BE), DIE YOUNG (USA), DISEMBODIED (USA), The EFFORT (USA), AN EMERALD CITY (NZL), FOR THE FALLEN DREAMS (USA), GOLD KIDS (IT), HOODS (USA), IMPENDING DOOM (USA), JOE COFFEE (USA), xKINGDOMx (USA), KNUCKLEDUST (UK), LEWD ACTS (USA), LIAR (BE), LOWER CLASS BRATS (USA), MISERY INDEX (USA), MISERY SIGNALS (USA), NUEVA ETICA (ARG), The NUMBER TWELVE LOOKS LIKE YOU (USA), OATHBREAKER (BE), ON (USA), OUTRAGE (USA), POLAR BEAR CLUB (USA), PSYOPUS (USA), RAEIN (IT), RAFFLESIA (BE), REAGAN YOUTH (USA), RHINOCEROS (USA), RISE AND FALL (BE), The SETUP (BE), SET YOUR GOALS (USA), SOUL CONTROL (USA), SPOIL ENGINE (BE), STIGMA (IT), SUCKINIM BAENAIM (ISR), TEENAGE LUST (BE), THICK AS BLOOD (USA), TRASH TALK (USA), TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED (UK), TRUE COLORS (BE), VIATROPHY (UK), WAIT IN VAIN (USA), A WILHELM SCREAM (USA) and YOUR DEMISE (UK)

Check out the “bands” section for a full list of all confirmed names with band pictures, info and MySpace links! We are really proud of the bill so far, and hope you are as satisfied as we are! We are still talking to a few really interesting bands, so stay tuned as we will announce a couple more names in the next few weeks.

Just like last year, the festival is held on the festival ground at the crossroads of the Poperingseweg and the Hazewindestraat in Ieper. Camping and parking will also be situated more or less at the same location! The setup of the festival ground (tents, bar, stages...) will be slightly altered in comparison to last year, but a detailed map will be included in the festival booklet, so all will be clear enough!

Ticket sales will be starting as soon as possible via Fnac (stores, hotline and online), the Genet Rcs. online webstore and a selection of shops! Ticket prices are set as follows: weekend-tickets are € 60 in pre-sale, and € 69 at the door. Tickets for separate days will be € 28 in pre-sale, and € 33 at the door. The cost of a camping ticket is still € 10, regardless of how many nights you spend at our camping.

Due to the popularity it experienced last year, we will make it possible to withdraw money or pay tickets with your bank card at the entrance again this year! One euro extra will be charged per transaction!

And of course, you will be able to enjoy an extensive and interesting side-program (Hardcore, more than just music, right?). More details on that will be released soon, as well as the bands that will play on the Pre-fest show on Thursday August 27th, on our Marquee-stage!

Catering will be vegan and tasty as always, and will be cooked by a brand-new catering team as of this year. The legendary Vegan Tash wasn’t able to fit Ieperfest in her busy schedule anymore. We surely regret this, and want to thank her for all the hard work she and her volunteers have put into it over the last couple of years!

That’s about it for now, hope you like what you see! Take care, and speak soon!

Ieperfest news update 16 January 2009

It’s been a while since we last spoke, almost five months to be more precise! We’d like to start by saying thanks to every single person that made Ieperfest 2008 the way it was! Despite the weather, and the somewhat muddy conditions, we think it’s safe to say that everybody had a great time at the festival! Thanks to all the bands, spectators and, last but most definitely not least, crew members!

As some of you might already know, we decided to cancel this year’s edition of Ieper Winterfest that was supposed to be happening on Saturday February 21st. Main reason for this decision was the fact that we were unable to find bands capable of headlining the festival. Luck wasn’t on our side, as it seemed that all good tours ended just before, or started just after February 21st. That, or they were nowhere near Ieper that day! We sincerely apologize to all people that were planning on coming to the Winterfest, and hope to offer you a new edition next year!

On the bright side: cancelling the Winterfest suddenly meant we could focus entirely on the 17th edition of Ieperfest next summer! The dates are locked, so take your calendars, diaries or notebooks and mark 28,29 and 30 August 2009 as “Ieperfest weekend”! As we speak, the first preparations are being made: material is being ordered, bands are being booked… Expect the first names somewhere at the end of February or the beginning of March! Location for the festival is the same as last year: crossroads of the Poperingseweg and the Hazewindestraat, but I suppose you all know the way by now!

Speak soon,

Team Ieperfest!
