When?

Fri 11, Sat 12 & Sun 13 August 2016

Where?

Open air in Ieper, Belgium, at the crossroads of Poperingseweg and Hazewindstraat. Ieper is situated in the Flemish speaking part of Belgium, in the so-called H8000 area (legendary among HC kids worldwide) and just 15 km away from the French border. The closest bigger cities are Kortrijk (BE) & Lille (FR). Ieper is a cosy town with just 35.000 inhabitants, internationally known as one of the war fields during both the first & second World Wars.

Who’s in charge?

Ieperfest is organised by 2 Belgian, not-for-profit DIY collectives sharing the same geographical & ideological roots: Republyk Vort’n Vis & Genet records. They represent over 25 years of experience of organising & promoting underground events. By joining hands, they manage to make the mother of all European underground hardcore festivals the big success it has always been. Profits (if any) are split up between both collectives who re-invest them in their future projects. Check http://www.vortnvis.net & http://www.genetrecords.com to learn more about the organisers.

What?

Ieperfest is an independent 3-day Hardcore festival that is taking place for the 24th time in 2016. Year after year we try to offer an excellent mix of all sorts of styles by bands from all over the world. Old school hardcore, metalcore, doom, emo, metal, grindcore, postrock, punk, sludge, etc. You name it, you get it. Just like the previous years, we hope to welcome about 10.000 visitors.

4 stages

The Trench stage (yep, that's how we call it) is an indoor (tent) stage with a small capacity that enables bands to create a crazy and cosy kind of atmosphere. The other stages we have are Main (outdoor), Marquee (tent) and More Than Music (tent).

Ieperfest is not only the longest running outdoor underground festival in Europe, but also a household name across the world. We offer a stage to an international variety of underground bands. Back in the day hardcore was not as popular and mainstream accepted as it is nowadays. It was far from easy but we worked hard and managed to keep the festival alive. We saw it evolving from a small scale festival to an event with over 10.000 visitors from all over the world. Ieperfest has no major budgets or sponsors and we do our own thing, i.e. booking a festival for bands we like and that we think should be heard. Each year over 120 volunteers make it all happen. The “DIY” spirit is still roaming around here!!

The international importance of the festival for the DIY hardcore community is huge! Over the years we’ve welcomed visitors from countries such as Australia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium (duh!), Brazil, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, USA, Wales, etc.

Record & merch geeks will surely appreciate the large merch tent. All bands get a spot to sell their shirts and records. On top of that a selected amount of labels and distros are invited. They offer the best newest releases as well as rarities and overstocks!

Friday and Saturday evening end with a tremendous party!! Ask anyone that has attended one in the past and they will tell you about an international crowd going wild on disco and other nice dance tunes (specific theme each evening). The atmosphere is crazy and many band members seem to be more than happy to join in!

More Than Music

Ieperfest is not just about music however. Since its very start, the “more than music” stage has proven to be a huge success. In a separate tent, debate and a bunch of workshops are being held. Several non-governmental organizations are given the chance to present themselves by means of a free stall. Interesting documentaries are being shown all day and the ever expanding zine library is a surprise to many visitors.

Practical information Ieperfest 2016

How to get to the festival

Check out our information on how to get to Ieperfest, or to carpool or public transport! Follow the signs we'll set out and you'll get there easily! Do not trust your GPS when getting near Ieper, there are some traffic diversions!

It speaks for itself that we encourage any kind of transportation that minimalizes our ecological footprint: on foot, by bike, by train, by bus or by carpooling!

By foot and bike:

People living close enough to the festival site should definitely consider coming by bike or on foot, to reduce the ecological footprint to a minimum. If you want to use our BIKE PARKING, please park your bike decently so that a maximum of bikes can be parked. Thank you!

Public transportation:

The festival ground is situated near the Ieper railway station, and is therefore ideally located to get to the festival by train or bus. From the railway station it takes a 15-20 minute walk to get to the festival site. Of course you can always try to catch a ride with one of the friendly locals to get to the festival site faster!
If you are planning on coming to the festival by train, you can use the website of the Belgian Rail (B-rail) to plan your journey.
To travel within Belgium: http://www.belgianrail.be/
For international travel: http://www.b-europe.com/Travel

Personal transportation:

If you DO come by car, please try to take as many people as possible! To help fill each and every car to the max, use the Ieperfest 2016 Liftshare page: https://liftshare.com/uk/lifts/ieperfest. People in search of a ride can send a request and people with some spare seats left in their car can put up a notice.

DON’T FORGET: Monday the 15th of August is a holiday in Belgium! Shops, etc. will be closed and there’ll be less trains/buses available.

Parking site

The parking of Ieperfest still is free of charge and will be open on Friday 12th of August at 8 am. No use in getting to the festival sooner, unless you first want to visit our beautiful town! The parking site stays open until noon on Monday 15th of August. During the festival, the parking site remains open! The parking site is right next to the camping and festival, but is NOT GUARDED.

Camper policy: campers can park on the parking. However, no extra tents/alongside camping will be tolerated! If you want to use the festival showers, you will need to buy a camping ticket.

PLEASE clean up the mess you’re making in the appropriate bins. We will ask you to kindly leave the parking if we notice that any of these minor requests are being “forgotten”! Thanks for your understanding.

Camping site

The camping site opens on Friday 12th of August at 9 am, not sooner! DON’T FORGET THIS! You will not be able to enter earlier!

Before going to the camping site, first exchange your tickets for the festival bracelets at the entrance! No bracelet = no entrance to the camping site! Prices are €12, no matter how many nights you stay (early bird tickets got their camping entrance cheaper!).
At the camping site we have toilet and shower facilities, please keep them clean! No one enjoys a dirty toilet or a shower filled with (pubic) hair! The showers are available from
8 am till 22 pm! There's no extra charge for them!

This year we start our ecological camping area, these visitors have some cool advantages (separate showers, separate 'green' toilets, electricity...). For more info, check our green policy and read on!

Speaking of our green policy, Ieperfest has always been and still is an example of how a festival can be organized by keeping the ecological rules high! We ask and we want every visitor to help us in our quest for a green and clean fest! So don't act like a dumbass and clean up your garbage when you leave! Ieperfest is all about volunteers and this way you can help us out as well! You will receive the necessary garbage bags from our camping crew, so respect these people and help them out when you can!

WE DO NOT ALLOW ANY KIND OF PARTY TENTS!!! Every year we spend too much time and effort on cleaning up broken tents and garbage. It simply costs us too much work and to be honest, we're sick of this shit! So we hope you understand!

The camping site closes at noon on Monday 15th of August!

Prefest

This year there will NOT be a prefest.

Festival

The festival opens on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm. First band starts each day at 1.30 pm! On Friday and Saturday the festival site closes at 3 am! Please leave the festival site so that we can get everything ready for the next day! On Sunday the festival site closes at 11 pm.

The Ieperfest foodcourt will open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 11 am. For more info, check the Food section on this website.

AfterParty on Friday and Saturday

As many visitors of Ieperfest already know, our afterparties are quite legendary! We all go crazy on party music and have a good time! The after party starts at midnight till 2.45 am. Due to local laws we have to stop the music near 3 am, and off course afterwards we still have a lot of cleaning up to do, so please respect this! We would like to continue organizing our fest in the future!

Drinks and Food

There’s 1 token for food AND drinks. You pay € 2,20 for one token! For example, a beer or cola will cost you € 2,20, so we’re still fucking cheap in these hard times! The prices of the food can differ depending on what you want to eat, but we try to keep them as cheap as possible! We have a great vegan food corner with a delicious range of foods, so you’ll have plenty of choices to eat (and drink)!

Green camping

Ieperfest will have, yet again, its very own green camping. This will give people the chance to camp in a quiet and more ecologically sustainable way.

Guests on our green camping will not only be able to enjoy a clean camping area, they will also have exclusive access to:

  • Composting toilets
  • Showers with hot water from an eco pellet stove
  • Separate cooking area
  • All electricity on this camp site will come from solar panels

The amount of people able to camp on our green camping is limited, so reserving your spot is necessary. Only registered guests will be allowed on the green camping.

You can secure your spot by sending an e-mail to greencamping@ieperfest.com..

Your e-mail must include the following information:

  • Number of guests + names
  • The kind of tent you are bringing e.g. 2 person iglo (we want to make the most of the available space)
  • Put “Green Camping 2016” in your subject line

For entrance to the green camping, you will need a normal camping ticket + your reservation (no extra cost).

If you make a reservation for the green camping, you automatically agree with the following rules:

  • No Trash: We do not want to see any trash on the ground, and we expect people on the green camping to separate all their waste. Trash bins for sorting will be available on the campsite. Also, if you do see other people litter, ask them to pick up their shit. Social control can be a powerful thing.
  • Be Quiet: No radios, speakers, shouting, loud singing, or anything else that makes too much noise.
  • Show respect: Towards your fellow green campers, the Ieperfest shit workers and the environment.
  • Everything you bring along, you take back home with you.
  • No party tents allowed.

On our green camping, the same rules apply as on the rest of the camping.

In case of a serious violation of these rules, you will be removed from the green camping.

Together we want to set an example for others: Festival camping ≠ dump!

Multiple Green Award

On top of that, Ieperfest has won the Flemish OVAM ‘Green Event award’ every single time we've participated in the competition (2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015). It’s great to be among the greenest fests in the country. We've also been shortlisted in the category 'Green Operations' at the European Festival Awards AND won the 'Groene Pluim' from the city of Ieper. We see it as the ultimate appreciation for all environmental friendly efforts (e.g. offering 100% tasty vegan food only) Ieperfest has been investing in since the very start in 1992. Setting up an event like this always leaves its mark on the environment, but by investing time ánd money into the matter, we contribute to making this mark considerably smaller!
